Performer
As a classically-trained cellist and self-trained improvisor with a preference for contemporary idioms and Renaissance music, Randall has recently been turning his attention to immersive arts with an ensemble, Paris 1919. The brain-child of band-leader and producer Chris Strouth, the group performs in dramatically or theatrically Randall improvises and has been developing his own approach to processed cello with this All-Star ensemble. He has been featured in regular appearances at the "Drones Not Drones" marathon festival and recent collaborations with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and singer Natalie Nowytski at the 2018 Art-A-Whirl festival.

After ARCA went off the air, it was re-re-incarnated as A Prairie Home Companion, again again. The movie, "A Prairie Home Companion" directed by Robert Altman, featured some of the creative talents assembled in New York for ARCA. Randall's role was always incidental (if not accidental) but he was always proud to get on-board the Garrison Train for a short while.
Some of his favorite experiences at Minnesota Public Radio took place from 1987 to 1995, when Randall made weekly "Arts Man on the Street" appearances on "Take Out" with host Beth Friend. During dozens of short 5-10 segments, Randall celebrated local and national artists, production, exhibits, along with broader cultural stories that warranted attention.
