The Fourth Wiseman for four male soloists, mezzo solo, treble trio, double large and small SATB choirs; chamber orchestra
Adapted by Minnesota poet and playwright, George Sand, from Henry Van Dyke and Michel Tournier's stories about the fourth Wiseman who seems to arrive late to some of the greatest religious moments: the Nativity and the Last Supper. Extensive information about the music, the story, and background are available upon request. The Orchestra consists of oboe, trumpet, percussion, harp, organ, and strings (3-2-1 1-1). The work was premiered in 1995 for Philip Brunelle and Vocalessence as part of a New Residency funded by New Music USA. The hour-long work can be performed in both concert and staged versions; the premiere included a procession of the Wise Men and minimal costumes for the angel choir.
